What We'll Do

Some of the themes we'll explore are:

  • We will begin every workshop with a Land Acknowledgement

  • We’ll discuss ethical and sustainable harvesting, place-based, bioregional options and alternatives to overharvested plants.

  • We’ll explore lineages and proper offerings according to your ancestral lineage as well as the land we are harvesting from.

  • We’ll work with the Medicine Wheel garden and explore plant allies and the medicine they carry as you gather fresh sprigs for your chosen workshop.

  • You will have private time to commune with the plants and practice "ayni" (sacred reciprocity).

We will conclude our time together with a tea ceremony with delicious seasonal herbs from the garden.

The Medicine Wheel

The Medicine Wheel is a universal model for depicting life in order to better understand it. Anthropological research shows us there are versions of the Medicine Wheel from ancient times in various forms in indigenous cultures all over the world. Each nation, culture or tribe has its own particular depiction.

The Medicine Wheel, as visioned and taught by the late Sun Bear, a Chippewa elder, put forth a whole new system of earth astrology to help guide people not only in their daily living but also in their life paths. In the authors' own words, this book was written to "help all people relate better to our Earth Mother...and find a kinship with the universe."

The Andean/Inca Medicine Wheel honors the luminous, spiritual dimension of all creation, as well as the timelessness that links ancient ancestors with our own lives here and now. The Medicine Wheel brings us into “ayni”–right relationship–with all things, including our past, our present, and our future.

In my practice as an educator and curandera I create and work with Transcultural Medicine Wheels. The Medicine Wheel allows me a sacred space to grow medicine and offer experiential learning opportunities designed to restore balance in our inner and outer lives as well as enhance ecosystem restoration through connection with Nature.

What Clients Say

"I had a wonderful experience learning about Appalachia, being with nature, herbs, their properties, drinking tea, and the magic of creating a folk remedy with Yanina. The experience was equal parts informative, spiritual, crafty, and fun. I even got a chance to browse Yanina's art and came home with a super cute necklace. When I am in Asheville again, I will definitely sign up for another Yanina's many experiences she offers!"
